Little Hudson came into my studio with his mom and Grandma for a Mini Session and brought along some of dad’s stuff to use in his newborn photos. We managed to incorporate his dad’s wrestling shoes and a baseball in his portraits which was fun. I’m always happy to include special items in newborn sessions, but I definitely appreciate a heads up so I can think about the best way to use them. Some things are easy but others take a little more thinking on my part!
I traveled to Maisy’s home for her Newborn Mini Session recently. I’ve had a lot of client’s requesting in-home newborn sessions lately and that’s absolutely an option! I know that it can be overwhelming to travel with a newborn so I’m happy to offer to do sessions in your home for a small travel fee. I bring my studio lighting and props so there’s no difference in how they turn out. Maisy’s mom asked for girly colors so I brought some pinks and purples and I really love the darker purple backdrop. Such a great color! Obviously Masiy agrees with me since I caught a small grin while we were using it.
I traveled to Kosi’s home for her newborn session, and even though she was a smidge over 2 weeks old she was a perfect baby model and slept almost the entire session! She had a bit of a rough beginning so we pushed her session back a bit and it was absolutely fine. Her mom requested girly colors with a little bit of Christmas since she was born so close to the holiday. I love all the setups and don’t think I could pick a favorite! We also got some photos with mom and dad using one of their living room walls which made for a great backdrop. A bonus to using client’s walls is that the finished photo will match and look great hanging there!
Baby Cairo came into to my Salem studio for a Newborn Mini Session and was absolutely adorable with his chubby cheeks! His mom asked if she could bring along some custom macarons with his name spelled out to match his older brother’s newborn photos. I came up with a pose that would work and it turned out super cute! I don’t get a lot of requests for yellow so I was happy to pull out the little bit of yellow props I have along with some green to match the macarons. If you have a request for your newborn photos (like bringing custom macarons!) I’m totally on board with it. Please let me know your idea ahead of time so I can think of some good ways to use what you bring so they photograph nicely. I’m also happy to use any colors you have in mind. I have a pretty large selection of props in a rainbow of colors but on the off chance you’re interested in a color I don’t have and let me know ahead of time I will make sure to be ready.
Occasionally I’ll book a last minute newborn session, so if your baby is already born and you just realized you absolutely need photos please contact me! Avroop’s parents reached out and even with the holidays I was able to squeeze in a full session for them. I’m so glad they did because he’s just about the cutest little guy and was a breeze to work with even if he was slightly older than the ideal 7-14 days old. He wasn’t particularly interested in sleeping but was a very content little guy and I got some great eye contact which is just as good as sleepy photos in my opinion. His parents said they preferred neutrals so I pulled out mostly neutral props for them to choose from. Neutrals do a fabulous job of keeping all the focus on baby’s face which I appreciate since that’s the point of the photo. We did quite a few family photos with the entire family, and I even managed to *just barely* squeeze 8 people plus the baby into my studio. It was definitely crowded but I made it work. If family photos are a priority to you let me know and we can make sure it happens the way you envision it.
